I’ve still yet to track down a post tagging utility for wordpress that makes any sense. Anyone have recommendations before we build our own??

<p>I was curious about this post about tagging. What exactly do you feel wordpress is missing? I never tried wordpress but always wanted to see how it works. I made my own blog-system in .NET and wondering how I can improve it.</p>

Thanks for the link in your blog, great review of our new digs. Funny you mention the frog…we weren’t sold on it, but our designer really suggested we think about it. Every single person that looked at the site during it’s beta run had the same reaction: “i love the frog!”. So we named him Gomer and decided to keep him.
As for wordpress and tagging…wordpress rocks my socks when it comes to simple blogging with TONS of plugin-able functionality. Not to mention, free and fast. And, as you can see, very simple to skin however I want. On the back end, there’s one thing that I wish it did better and that’s tagging. For a great example of how I think entry tagging SHOULD work, sign up for an account with http://ma.gnolia.com if you don’t have one already, and ‘mark a page. After doing a few, you’ll see that the freeform tag input field does auto-complete based on previously used tags, as well as provides a tag-cloud below it which you can click on, and it uses the clicked tags to populate the text field. Its slick, intuitive, and fast. Unlike any tagging solutions I’ve seen for WP. I’m halfway tempted to write to the ma.gnolia dudes and see if they can hook me up with something that I can turn INTO a WP pluging just because theirs works SO darn well.

Thank you for the information about the tagging. I had a look at Ma.gnolia and I agree that’s a really nice solution. I want to do something similar myself (with .NET).
I agree that Wordpress seems to be an excellent blog-tool. (never had the opportunity to try) What I really dig is the possibility to create short and meaningful urls. This is very hard in .NET at the moment.
Yeah the frog is great, it’s nice to see some animals and nature on the designs. I also like the other backgrounds, especially the graffiti. Cool transparent box with the messages.

short urls are built into wordpress, but are also accomplished on my site via mod-rewrite…built into apache. unfortunately IIS doesnt support anything like mod-rewrite natively….but a quick search for ISAPI rewrite will turn up a number of components (unfortunately, only one ‘lite’ version is free) are available. So not ALL hope is lost.

Not sure if you are still interested in WordPress tagging but I am running the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin and it’s working well for me. It provides a tag cloud with in the admin panel of my post as well as one for my site.
